Midline mismatch.

When the centers do not line up

A midline mismatch means the center between the upper front teeth does not align with the center between the lower front teeth. It is considered in the context of the whole bite.

A closer look

Understanding
midline mismatch.

A dental midline is the line between the two front teeth. A mismatch means the upper and lower dental midlines do not line up when biting together.

This visible difference is evaluated alongside the entire bite. It may be minor or connected to tooth-position or jaw issues that deserve a closer look.

What an evaluation considers

The image above shows one patient example. Your own examination determines what is relevant to you.

  1. 01

How far apart are the dental midlines?

  2. 02

Do other bite or spacing concerns occur with the mismatch?

  3. 03

Would changing the midline be part of an appropriate overall plan?
